Security & Identity Theft

This document is VERY IMPORTANT to the security of your data and your identity. Please read it carefully.

What is Phishing?

Phishing attacks are ‘spoofed’ e-mails and fraudulent websites designed to fool recipients into divulging personal financial data such as account user names and numbers, passwords and social security numbers. Be suspicious of any email with urgent request for personal financial information.

Dalhart Federal Savings & Loan Association, SSB WILL NOT SOLICIT account numbers, account balances, pin numbers, social security #’s or any personal financial data by e-mail. 

If you think your security has been compromised you will need to contact Dalhart Federal Savings & Loan Association, SSB as soon as possible at 806-249-8561. 

Email and online security:

Be suspicious of emails requesting your account information and password especially if the information requested is to verify a statement or win a prize. Avoid opening any emails that are questionable. If you have opened the email do not open any attachments.

Notify us if you receive a suspected email claiming to come from Dalhart Federal Savings & Loan Association, SSB or if you have responded with personal information to a suspicious email. Call us at 806-249-8561.

Protect your passwords:

Do not write your passwords down, memorize them. Change your passwords often and use a combination of letters and numbers. Do not use your Social Security Number as a username or password.

Virus Protection:

Keep you computer safe by installing virus detection software and keeping the definitions up to date. Scan your entire computer for viruses periodically.

Phone and mail fraud:

Be aware of telephone scams. Use extreme caution when giving out your personal information even when you initiate the contact. Make sure it is legitimate.

Collect incoming mail as soon as possible to prevent the opportunity for theft. Know your billing and statement cycles and notify us if you stop receiving your regular statement.

Identity Theft:

Identify theft occurs when someone illegally obtains your personal information…such as Social Security numbers , bank account numbers etc. and uses it to open new accounts or conduct transactions in your name.

If you think your security has been compromised you will need to contact Dalhart Federal Savings & Loan Association, SSB as soon as possible at 806-249-8561. It might be an incorrect entry and can be resolved quickly.

Protecting yourself from identity theft.

Do not open or respond to online or telephone solicitations for personal information. Dalhart Federal Savings & Loan Association, SSB does not send emails requesting personal information on our customers.

Shred financial or personal documents before discarding. Cancel and cut up unused credit cards and credit card applications and checks. Most fraud and identity theft occurs as a result of mail and garbage theft.

Collect your mail promptly each day.

Monitor the activity in your account often. Make it a habit to open your statement monthly, or use online banking to monitor and detect any fraudulent transactions timely.
